Eight earthquake survivors -- ranging in age from 99 to 104 -- from San Francisco's 1906 Great Quake and fires threw out the ceremonial first pitches before the Giants' home opener against the Braves. ''Don't ask me to throw it," 104-year-old Jeanette Trapani said with a grin. ''I'm liable to throw it backward."
Giants starter Noah Lowry left in the second inning because of a strained muscle in his lower back. The lefthander was scheduled to be re-evaluated today.
Pitcher Jason Marquis, an NL Silver Slugger Award winner last year, had a run-scoring double in the fifth inning to start the Cardinals' comeback. He batted .310 (27 for 87) with one homer and 10 RBIs last season.![]()
