Jones digs deep, lifts Braves

Andruw Jones hit a pair of two-run homers, Kyle Davies pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game, and the visiting Atlanta Braves slowed down the New York Mets with a 7-1 victory last night.

Adam LaRoche also homered off Victor Zambrano and drove in three runs, helping the Braves bounce back from a 4-3 loss to Pedro Martínez in the series opener. Tim Hudson faces Tom Glavine in the finale today.

Davies (1-1) shut down a depleted Mets lineup that was missing three injured starters: center fielder Carlos Beltran, left fielder Cliff Floyd, and rookie second baseman Anderson Hernandez.

The 22-year-old righthander struck out six and walked one in his 17th major league start. He threw 77 of 106 pitches for strikes and retired his final 10 batters in a game that lasted only 2 hours 9 minutes.

Davies yielded only a third-inning homer to Chris Woodward and rebounded from a 7-6 loss to Philadelphia in his previous outing. Davies had lost four straight decisions dating to last season.

Marlins 12, Reds 6 -- Leadoff hitter Hanley Ramirez homered in his first two at-bats off Eric Milton and drove in four runs, sparking Florida past host Cincinnati.

Florida stopped a three-game losing streak with its biggest offensive splurge of the season. The Marlins hit three homers off Milton (2-1) -- Dan Uggla also had a solo shot -- and had seven doubles among their season-high 18 hits.

Ramirez had a solo homer, a two-run shot, and an RBI single.

Astros 13, Brewers 12 -- Morgan Ensberg hit two home runs, Adam Everett had four RBIs, and host Houston held on.

The win, Houston's fourth straight, puts the franchise at .500 for the first time since the Colt-.45s, as the team was known, were 6-6 before a 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Braves April 27, 1962. The franchise record is 3,507-3,507, making Houston the 13th team in the majors with a record of .500 or better.

Rockies 3, Padres 2 -- Matt Holliday singled home the winning run with two outs in the 11th inning to overcome a pair of Mike Piazza doubles, leading host Colorado.

With the score 2-all, Todd Helton drew a one-out walk off Jon Adkins (0-1) in the 11th, and moved to second on Garrett Atkins fly to left. Holliday singled to right, and Helton beat Brian Giles's throw to the plate.

Nationals 10, Phillies 3 -- Ryan Zimmerman drove in three runs on a pair of doubles and Ryan Church hit a grand slam, leading Washington at Philadelphia.

Diamondbacks 7, Giants 4 -- Luis Gonzalez doubled to become the 21st major leaguer with 300 home runs and 500 doubles, and host Arizona defeated San Francisco.

Pirates 12, Cardinals 4 -- Jason Bay hit a three-run homer in the first inning to get host Pittsburgh off to a quick start and the Pirates withstood Albert Pujols's 10th homer in 14 games.

Dodgers 2, Cubs 1 -- J.D. Drew's two-out single in the ninth inning drove in Kenny Lofton with the winning run for host Los Angeles.

Indians 15, Orioles 1 -- Jason Johnson took a five-hitter into the eighth inning, Victor Martinez and Grady Sizemore homered, and Cleveland got 20 hits in a rout at Baltimore.

Athletics 4, Tigers 3 -- Nick Swisher hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh for his second homer of the game, leading host Oakland.

White Sox 4, Royals 1 -- Jon Garland led host Chicago to its eighth win in nine games and extended Kansas City's losing streak to nine.

Angels 8, Twins 2 -- Kelvim Escobar struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings and Chone Figgins had a home run and two RBIs for visiting Anaheim.

Rangers 7, Mariners 4 -- Phil Nevin and Brad Wilkerson each hit two-run homers to lift Texas over Felix Hernandez and host Seattle.
