San Francisco's Barry Bonds missed his third straight game with a sore left side. Bonds is expected to return to the starting lineup today against Pittsburgh. He told reporters he could probably have started last night but with cold weather decided to wait a day.

Toronto starter Gustavo Chacin left the game after three innings with an elbow problem and the lefthander was placed on the 15-day disabled list. He was making his third start since being activated from the disabled list with a sprained ligament in his elbow and a strained forearm.

Cubs reliever Bob Howry singled in the eighth for his first career hit.
