Foulke pitches scoreless inning in rehab outing at Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. --Former Red Sox closer Keith Foulke pitched one scoreless inning Thursday night in a rehab start for Triple A Pawtucket against Syracuse.

"I felt pretty comfortable," said Foulke, who threw 10 of his 18 pitches for strikes. "I'm still trying to slow things down, but I'm happy with the results."

Foulke, who finished all four games of Boston's 2004 World Series victory, has been on the disabled list since June 13 with right elbow tendinitis. He is 2-1 with a 5.63 ERA in 29 appearances with the Red Sox this season.

He said he'll pitch again for Pawtucket on Saturday night, then join Boston on Tuesday in Kansas City. He pitched one inning last Friday at Single-A Lowell against Vermont and retired the side in order on 11 pitches.

On Thursday he struck out Wayne Lydon on a 1-and-2 pitch. He retired Russ Adams on a soft liner to second base and walked Kevin Barker before catching Chad Mottola looking at a third strike on a 2-and-2 pitch.
