Santana, Twins KO Rangers
Johan Santana struck out a season-high 13 in seven innings and Justin Morneau homered twice as the Minnesota Twins overpowered the Rangers, 7-1, in Arlington, Texas.
Santana (5-4) broke a personal two-game losing streak, shutting down a Texas offense that had produced 28 runs in its two previous games.
Santana reached double digits in strikeouts for the 35th time and fell one short of matching his career high.
Sammy Sosa hit his 598th career homer for the Rangers, who struck out 18 times in the game.
The Twins had scored a total of five runs in Santana's three previous starts, but Morneau provided plenty of support with his seventh career multihomer game and third this season.
Morneau hit a two-run shot in the fourth and a three-run drive in the fifth to give him 13 homers for the season.
Santana, the 2006 Cy Young winner, struck out seven of the first nine he faced, including five in a row in the second and third innings.
Blue Jays 6, Orioles 4 -- Alex Rios had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run in a four-run fifth inning, leading visiting Toronto past Baltimore.
A.J. Burnett (5-3) allowed four runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings to win his third straight start. He struck out eight and walked two.
Nationals 8, Reds 4 -- Felipe Lopez hit a grand slam in the eighth inning against his former team, rallying Washington to a victory in Cincinnati.
Lopez also had an RBI double and a run-scoring groundout, matching his career high with six RBIs.
Padres 5, Cubs 1 -- Jake Peavy allowed one run in six solid innings and Mike Cameron hit two of San Diego's four homers in its victory over visiting Chicago. Peavy (6-1) held the Cubs to four hits and struck out six as he moved into a tie for the NL lead in wins and lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.63.
Dodgers 3, Brewers 2 -- Randy Wolf (6-3) allowed three hits in seven innings and Russell Martin hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fourth as host Los Angeles snapped a four-game losing streak.
Braves 8, Mets 1 -- Kyle Davies threw eight strong innings and turned the game into a rout with a three-run homer to center -- a 400-foot shot off Aaron Sele -- leading Atlanta past visiting New York.
Cardinals 9, Pirates 4 -- Adam Wainwright (4-3) worked out of almost constant trouble for 5 1/3 innings and hit a two-run double, helping host St. Louis end a five-game losing streak.
Mariners 5, Devil Rays 2 -- Richie Sexson hit a two-run single and Yuniesky Betancourt snapped a sixth-inning tie with a solo homer to help visiting Seattle beat Tampa Bay.
Marlins 5, Phillies 3 -- Miguel Cabrera's triple helped Florida rally in the sixth inning against Cole Hamels, as Florida extended its winning streak to four games.
Angels 6, Tigers 3 -- Orlando Cabrera homered and made a leaping catch to end Detroit's comeback, leading visiting Los Angeles to its sixth straight victory.
Giants 4, Astros 2 -- Ray Durham drove in runs after two Barry Bonds intentional walks to support Tim Lincecum in San Francisco's win over visiting Houston.
White Sox 10, Athletics 4 -- Jim Thome had a three-run homer and five RBIs to lead Chicago over visiting Oakland.
Royals 4, Indians 3 -- Mark Teahen drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning to force in the winning run in Kansas City.
