DETROIT (Reuters) - Outfielder Curtis Granderson and the Detroit Tigers agreed to a five-year contract, the Major League Baseball club said on Monday.

According to media reports, the deal is worth $30.25 million and includes a club option for 2013.

"We are excited to have Curtis signed to a long-term contract with the Tigers organization," Tigers president and general manager David Dombrowski said on the team's Web site (http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com).

"Curtis is one of the best young players in the game and a quality individual that represents the Tigers well both on and off the field."

Granderson batted .302 last season with 23 home runs, 74 RBI and 122 runs scored. He also led the American league in triples with 23 and stole 26 bases in 158 games.

In last year's breakout season, Granderson become the second player in major league history to collect at least 30 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.

Wildfire Schulte achieved the feat in 1911 and Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins also joined the club later in 2007.

In four major league seasons, all in a Tigers uniform, Granderson has a hitting average of .280 with 232 runs scored, 76 doubles, 36 triples, 50 home runs and 162 RBI.
