Bobby Abreu tripled twice and scored all four times he reached base, backing Mike Mussina and igniting the New York Yankees to a come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins last night in Minneapolis.

Abreu tied his career high with those four runs, helping Mussina (8-4) overcome a four-run first inning for his seventh win in eight starts. Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui, and Melky Cabrera each had three hits and two RBIs for further support.

Justin Morneau began the eighth with a homer against Kyle Farnsworth, the new setup man for Mariano Rivera with Joba Chamberlain now in the rotation. But Rivera stayed perfect with his 14th save in as many tries, by pitching a scoreless ninth and striking out pinch hitter Craig Monroe with a runner on first to end the game.

Twins starter Glen Perkins (2-2) lost his early 4-1 lead when Rodriguez doubled in Abreu to make it 5-4 Yankees with none out in the fifth. That was his last batter after 10 hits, two walks and no strikeouts - a clear step back after switching spots with the struggling Boof Bonser to stay on his regular rest pattern.

Rays 2, White Sox 1 - Cliff Floyd lined a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving AL East-leading Tampa Bay the win over Chicago.

Floyd's fourth homer of the season came against Scott Linebrink (2-1). It ended a stretch in which the White Sox bullpen had not allowed an earned run in 28 innings.

A crowd of 14,679 saw the Rays win a matchup of division leaders and raise their league-best record to 33-22.

Floyd homered on an 0-1 pitch and enabled Tampa Bay to overcome going only 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Indians 5, Royals 4 - Grady Sizemore homered twice and made a game-saving catch for the final out, as Cleveland handed host Kansas City its 12th straight loss.

Cliff Lee (8-1) moved into a tie for the AL lead in victories despite an off night. He allowed four runs and 10 hits in six innings. His ERA crept up from 1.50 to 1.88, still good enough to lead the league.

Dodgers 9, Mets 5 - Russell Martin went 4 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs, and visiting Los Angeles took advantage of a blown call at first base to rally past New York.

With the Dodgers trailing, 5-4, speedy Juan Pierre led off the eighth with a slow grounder to shortstop. He was called safe at first by umpire Tim Welke, though replays showed Jose Reyes's throw was in time.

Reliever Aaron Heilman (0-2) came on and promptly gave up Matt Kemp's tying double past diving right fielder Fernando Tatis. Jeff Kent, James Loney, and Martin followed with RBI singles to make it 8-5.

Nationals 7, Diamondbacks 4 - Willie Harris snapped out of a slump with a tiebreaking three-run homer, helping Washington dump Arizona in Phoenix.

Harris went deep on an 0-1 pitch from Micah Owings (6-3) with one out in the seventh to put the Nationals in front 6-3. He had one hit in his previous 18 at-bats before the drive over the right-field fence.

Brewers 5, Astros 1 - Ryan Braun homered and matched a career-high with four hits, Manny Parra pitched six strong innings, and host Milwaukee beat Houston.

Prince Fielder and Mike Cameron also homered for Milwaukee, which won for the fourth time in five games. Houston dropped its third straight.

Reds 3, Braves 2 - Rookie Jay Bruce had four hits - three of them off 300-game winner Tom Glavine - and scored on Chipper Jones's error in the 11th inning, leading Cincinnati over visiting Atlanta.

Bruce added to his remarkable debut week by opening the 11th with a single off Royce Ring (1-1). Ken Griffey Jr. then singled past Jones, and the third baseman also failed to come up with Brandon Phillips's grounder for a game-ending error.

Phillies 12, Marlins 3 - Chase Utley hit his major league-leading 18th homer to help Brett Myers win for the first time in six weeks, as host Philadelphia beat Florida.

Ryan Howard and Chris Coste each had three-run shots for the Phillies, who won their fifth straight game and moved into first place in the NL East - a half-game ahead of the surprising Marlins.

Cardinals 5, Pirates 4 - Albert Pujols homered for the third time in four games and Todd Wellemeyer worked seven sharp innings in host St. Louis's win over Pittsburgh.

Cubs 10, Rockies 9 - Jim Edmonds and Mark DeRosa delivered key hits and host Chicago overcame an eight-run deficit, rallying past Colorado for its fifth straight victory.

With the wind blowing out at 15 miles per hour, the hitters ruled at Wrigley Field. There were seven total home runs, and Jeff Baker hit a team-record four doubles for the Rockies.

Rangers 3, Athletics 1 - Kevin Millwood allowed one run through six innings in his first start in almost three weeks, rookie Brandon Boggs matched a career high with three RBIs and Texas beat Oakland in Arlington, Texas.
