Rays starter Matt Garza and catcher Dioner Navarro had heated words during a mound visit by pitching coach Jim Hickey in the fourth. When Garza and Navarro got in the dugout after the inning, they had an apparent scuffle that spilled into the tunnel. Only Navarro stayed in the game.

Rich Harden struck out the side in the first on nine pitches, the first AL pitcher to do so since Pedro Martínez with Boston in 2002. The last A's pitcher to do it was Lefty Grove in 1928.

Atlanta's Chipper Jones sat out with a small tear in his right quadriceps. He may miss one or two more games.

Mark Ellis hit the fifth walkoff grand slam by the A's and first since Mark McGwire's in 1995.

The White Sox have scored 10 or more runs in three consecutive games for the first time since 2000, and have at least 15 hits in three straight games for the first time since 1932.
