Detroit's Justin Verlander is 4-0 in his last six starts - giving up two or fewer earned runs in each outing - after starting the year 2-9.

The Yankees' Jose Molina had thrown out 12 straight runners trying to steal until B.J. Upton swiped second in the seventh inning. Molina's streak was the longest in the majors since Mike LaValliere also caught 12 in 1993.

Emergency crews in Kansas City mopped up the outfield and worked frantically to repair the warning track at Kauffman Stadium after nearly 3 inches of rain fell in a half-hour during the afternoon.

Joe Saunders (12-5) missed a chance to become the Angels' first 13-game winner before the All-Star break since Nolan Ryan in 1977.

Toronto's Dustin McGowan left after four innings with a sore right shoulder and will have an MRI today.
