Cardinals lefthander Mark Mulder, returning after two shoulder operations, left his comeback start against the Phillies after throwing only 16 pitches. The Cardinals said he had left shoulder discomfort and will be evaluated today.

Derek Lowe extended the Dodgers' streak of exceptional starts. On Monday, Hiroki Kuroda took a perfect game into the eighth before Mark Teixeira hit a leadoff double. On Tuesday, Chad Billingsley held the Braves hitless through the first four innings.

The Yankees distributed 20,000 replica mustaches in support of the All-Star candidacy of Jason Giambi, whose hot streak coincided with his decision in May to grow a mustache.

The Marlins have homered in 11 straight games, one shy of the team record.
