Pedro Martínez was greeted with hugs and handshakes from teammates in the New York Mets clubhouse when he returned from the Dominican Republic after attending his father's funeral. Martinez's father, Paulino, died July 23 at age 79 after a battle with brain cancer.

Ichiro Suzuki reached 3,000 combined hits in the major leagues and the Japanese League with a first-inning single against the Rangers. He has 1,722 hits with the Mariners.

The Orioles' Kevin Millar is batting .362 (17 for 47) with six homers against the Yankees this year.
