New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain will be examined by noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews today after undergoing an MRI on his right shoulder.

Chamberlain returned to New York for tests on his shoulder yesterday. The team said before its game against the Texas Rangers that it would not reveal the results of the MRI exam until Chamberlain is seen by Andrews in Birmingham, Ala.

"He'll take his test results with him," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Until I hear from Dr. Andrews, that's all I've got."

Chamberlain was removed from Monday night's start against the Rangers in the fifth inning with what the club announced was a stiff right shoulder.

Girardi said that the righthander probably would miss at least his next turn in the rotation.

Wagner lands on DL
Billy Wagner was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left forearm, leaving the New York Mets without their All-Star closer as they chase a playoff spot. It's a major blow to the Mets, even though Wagner has blown seven of 34 save chances. Wagner had an MRI exam and X-rays on his pitching arm. The tests showed no structural damage, but the forearm strain requires rest . . . Diamondbacks All-Star righthander Dan Haren has agreed to terms on a four-year, $44.75 million contract that runs through the 2012 season with a club option for 2013. Haren, acquired in an offseason trade with the Athletics, is 12-5 with a 2.75 ERA, fourth best in the National League . . . Milwaukee first baseman Prince Fielder apologized for pushing a teammate in the dugout during a loss, saying he should have done a better job of handling frustration due in part to the Brewers' losing streak. Fielder exchanged words and twice shoved Manny Parra after the pitcher was removed for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of a 6-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds Monday night, the Brewers' seventh loss in nine games.

Sox fan sues Yankees
A Red Sox fan sued the Yankees and two of their fans, alleging he was attacked at Yankee Stadium last summer. In a suit filed in Manhattan federal court, Charles Hillios said he was harassed by two Yankees fans who objected to him cheering for the Red Sox last Aug. 29. The Massachusetts resident said in the suit that security warned the fans to leave him alone. But he said they "viciously attacked and physically assaulted" him when he went to a concession stand . . . The Rays optioned designated hitter-outfielder Jonny Gomes to Triple A Durham . . . Orioles center fielder Adam Jones was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left foot . . . The Mariners optioned Brandon Morrow to Triple A Tacoma to begin converting him from a reliever to starter and announced that designated hitter Jose Vidro has been designated for assignment . . . The Cubs designated lefthander Scott Eyre for assignment less than two months after his club-record streak of 33 consecutive scoreless appearances ended. Once the streak ended June 13, the earned runs began piling up for Eyre. He was 2-0 with a 7.15 ERA in 19 appearances in 2008.
