Cubs' Bradley gets 2-game suspension

Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley was suspended two games for arguing balls and strikes and making contact with umpire Larry Vanover Thursday. The discipline, announced yesterday by Major League Baseball, stems from an outburst after Bradley was caught looking at a third strike with the bases loaded while pinch-hitting during a loss to the Cardinals. Also fined an undisclosed amount, he will appeal the suspension . . . The Astros exercised the option on manager Cecil Cooper's contract for 2010. Cooper, who has a 105-98 record with Houston, won 86 games last season . . . Injured Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman pitched his second bullpen session in four days and will begin rehab appearances at Triple A Nashville this week. The 41-year-old Hoffman strained his right side during spring training . . . Jeff Natale went 2 for 4, including a two-run double, to lift the host Pawtucket Red Sox to a 6-4 International League victory over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.NFL
Buffalo signs Rhodes to fill Lynch void
Running back Dominic Rhodes agreed to a two-year contract with the Bills, giving Buffalo an established starter while Marshawn Lynch opens next season serving a three-game suspension. Rhodes is an eight-year veteran who became a free agent after spending last year with Indianapolis. The Bills, who face the Patriots in their opener, needed to bolster their depth at running back after the NFL suspended Lynch for violating the league's personal conduct policy . . . The Jaguars are closing in on a deal with free agent wide receiver Torry Holt, according to ESPN. Holt was released by the Rams March 13.TENNIS
Nadal, Djokovic reach Monte Carlo final
Rafael Nadal beat Andy Murray, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), in the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco, putting him within one victory of his fifth straight title in this French Open tuneup. Nadal's final opponent will be Novak Djokovic, who rallied past Stanislas Wawrinka, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, in the other semifinal . . . Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the finals of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C., fighting off a rally by Elena Dementieva to defeat the tournament's top seed, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. Wozniacki meets 16th-seeded Sabine Lisicki, who defeated sixth-seeded Marion Bartoli, 6-3, 6-1, in the other semifinal . . . Maria Kirilenko will defend her Barcelona Open title against Roberta Vinci, advancing to the final with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over fifth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro. Pitino targeted in extortion attempt
Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says he is the victim of an extortion attempt and has forwarded the information to the FBI. Pitino reported the threats to authorities last month, and the FBI is investigating. "I recently learned that the individual behind this extortion attempt has already gone to the media with false, defamatory and outrageous allegations in an attempt to pressure me to cave in to this scheme," said Pitino, who did not outline the nature of the threats . . . Utah Jazz center Mehmet Okur is questionable for today's NBA playoff opener against the Lakers with a strained hamstring . . . Sean Morris scored 26 seconds into overtime and Anthony Cosmos made 35 saves to lift the Boston Blazers to a 13-12 road victory over the Buffalo Bandits in their final National Lacrosse League regular-season game. The Blazers will face the Bandits in the first-round of the playoffs May 2 in Buffalo . . . Caroline Zhang and Rachael Flatt led the United States to the World Team Trophy figure skating championship in Tokyo. Zhang finished third in the women's free skate while Flatt placed fourth to secure the victory. Japan's Mao Asada won the free skate with 126.03 points followed by Joannie Rochette of Canada with 120.08. The US won the three-day event with 60 points, followed by Canada with 54 and Japan with 50 . . .
