Ramirez apologizes to owner McCourt

Manny Ramírez apologized to Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt during a meeting to discuss his 50-game suspension for using a banned drug. Next, the slugger might face his teammates in the next few days. McCourt said the two met Saturday, two days after the 12-time All-Star began serving his penalty. "I wanted to meet him face to face," McCourt said. "He started off the meeting by apologizing and acknowledging the disappointment that he's created - not only for me but for others." McCourt also said he thinks Ramírez should speak to his teammates about the suspension. Ramírez has also spoken with manager Joe Torre and general manager Ned Colletti by phone. But the outfielder was absent from Dodger Stadium again yesterday as his teammates wrapped up an 11-game homestand against San Francisco.Tennis
Gasquet tests positive for cocaine
Frenchman Richard Gasquet acknowledged he tested positive for cocaine but says he's innocent. "I am gathering together proof of my innocence and I will choose an appropriate moment to express myself," Gasquet said. Gasquet, 22, said the "B" sample from the tournament in Key Biscayne, Fla., confirmed the result of the "A" sample taken the same day. Andretti crashes at Indy 500 trials
Veteran driver John Andretti crashed at practice for the Indianapolis 500, the third crash of the day. Andretti, who had qualified at 221.109 miles per hour, was in danger of being bumped out of the lineup. He was practicing, trying to find more speed, when he lost control in Turn 1 and hit the wall. He was not injured. Earlier, Indy rookies Mike Conway and Alex Tagliani crashed in separate incidents. Conway was admitted to an Indianapolis hospital with bruised lungs . . . Jenson Button won his fourth Formula One race of the season by taking the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona ahead of Brawn GP teammate Rubens Barrichello.Colleges
UMass men, women ousted in lacrosse

Russia wins hockey gold; US fourth
Russia won the gold medal at the hockey world championship, beating Canada, 2-1, in Bern, Switzerland. The Russians defended their title in a rematch of last year's final despite falling behind early on Jason Spezza's goal. The United States failed to hold an early lead and lost the bronze-medal game to Sweden, 4-2 . . . Even though the league's two top scorers - Boston's Kelly Smith and Los Angeles's Marta - were playing, the Breakers and the Sol could only manage a 0-0 draw in WPS action in Carson, Calif. . . .
