Scott Feldman pitched into the seventh inning to win his third consecutive start and the Texas Rangers cooled off the Yankees with a 4-2 victory last night in New York.
Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus each had two hits for Texas, which leapfrogged New York for the best record in the American League. Feldman (5-0) allowed two runs, one earned, and five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Jorge Posada homered for the second straight day for New York, which had won five of six and 16 of 20. Andy Pettitte, who left his previous start with a stiff back, looked shaky in his five-inning outing.
The Yankees were without first baseman Mark Teixeira, who was scratched with a bruised right ankle.
Indians 10, Twins 1 - Cleveland gave Cliff Lee the run support he needed for once, and the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner cruised through eight innings to spur the ailing Indians in Minneapolis.
Lee (3-6) turned in his 10th straight quality start, six innings or more and three runs allowed or less, picking up only his second victory since April 16. The lefthander was handed just 30 runs over his first 11 appearances from the third-highest scoring team in the league.
He scattered seven hits, one walk, and a hit batter, striking out five.
Jhonny Peralta's three-run homer against rookie Anthony Swarzak (1-2) was the big hit, part of a two-out, five-run surge in the third inning.
Rays 9, Royals 0 - Jeff Niemann took a perfect game into the fifth inning and wound up with a two-hitter, and Ben Zobrist hit a grand slam to help lead host Tampa Bay over Kansas City.
Niemann (5-4) retired his first 14 batters before Mark Teahen lined a two-out single to center in the fifth. The righthander struck out a career-high nine and walked one in his first complete game.
Niemann is 3-1 in his last five starts. During that stretch he has given up eight runs in 31 innings.
Zobrist became the first Rays player with four career grand slams when he gave Tampa Bay an 8-0 lead in the fourth. He has two grand slams this year, the other coming April 17 against the Chicago White Sox.
Brewers 9, Marlins 6 - Ryan Braun homered and Milwaukee scored three runs on walks to snap its five-game road losing streak.
Angels 8, Blue Jays 1 - Jered Weaver had a career-high 10 strikeouts, Bobby Abreu homered and Los Angeles beat host Toronto.
Chone Figgins had three hits, drove in a run and scored twice for the Angels, who finished with seven extra-base hits.
Athletics 5, White Sox 3 - Bobby Crosby and Landon Powell hit back-to-back homers, Jason Giambi also connected and Oakland beat host Chicago.
Astros 6, Rockies 4 - Hunter Pence had a solo homer and two RBI singles and host Houston beat Colorado for its fourth straight victory.
Cubs 3, Braves 2 - Pinch-hitter Micah Hoffpauir blooped an RBI single to left field in the 11th inning, and Chicago beat host Atlanta.
Reds 9, Cardinals 3 - Johnny Cueto beat St. Louis for the second time in less than a month and Laynce Nix homered twice with four RBIs in visiting Cincinnati's win.
Mariners 3, Orioles 2 - Franklin Gutierrez tripled with one out in the bottom of the ninth before Adrian Beltre singled him home, sending host Seattle to victory.
Phillies 5, Padres 1 - Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer off Chris Young and visiting Philadelphia beat San Diego for its sixth straight victory.
Dodgers 1, Diamondbacks 0 - Chad Billingsley scattered four hits over six innings, Casey Blake hit a sacrifice fly and host Los Angeles beat Arizona.
The Giants-Nationals game was postponed because of rain, delaying Randy Johnson's first bid at 300 wins. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today, and Johnson is scheduled to start the first game for the Giants.
The Mets' game against the Pirates was postponed by rain. A makeup game is scheduled for July 2.![]()
