Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton will be the designated hitter for Double A Frisco, the start of his comeback from abdominal surgery. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Hamilton will lead off and get as many at-bats as possible for the RoughRiders tonight in their last game before the All-Star break. Hamilton then will work out with the Rangers tomorrow. If all goes well, he will join Triple A Oklahoma City Wednesday. Daniels said it is possible Hamilton, who has been on the disabled list all of June, could rejoin the Rangers as early as next weekend . . . In his second game with the Single A Inland Empire 66ers, Manny Ramirez walked and struck out twice. Ramirez is scheduled to return to the Dodgers July 3, marking the end of his 50-game suspension . . . Philadelphia lefthander Antonio Bastardo will miss his next start because of a strained shoulder. Bastardo left in the fourth inning of his last start and returned to Philadelphia to see a doctor.PawSox fall behind, lose to Syracuse
Charlie Zink gave up four earned runs in the first three innings and the Pawtucket Red Sox never recovered as they dropped a 6-2 decision at home to Syracuse. The Chiefs took a 4-0 lead after the first three innings. The PawSox scored one run in the fifth and another in the seventh . . . As expected, the Baltimore Orioles placed righthander Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled list and recalled pitcher David Hernandez from Triple A Norfolk. The 34-year-old Uehara has right elbow tendinitis. Baltimore’s first Japanese-born player spent time on the DL earlier this season with a strained left hamstring. Uehara is 2-4 with a 4.05 ERA. He is winless since April 13 . . . The Detroit Tigers placed lefthander Nate Robertson on the 15-day disabled list with what they’re calling “a mass’’ in his left elbow. The team announced the move retroactive to June 27. To take his place on the roster, the Tigers purchased the contract of lefthander Fu-Te Ni from Triple A Toledo. He was 3-0 with a 2.60 ERA there, with 32 strikeouts in 24 appearances. Robertson is 1-0 with a 7.71 ERA with the Tigers this season.Soccer

The 5-foot-9-inch Jekabsone-Zogota signed with the Sun in February but remained in Latvia to play for her country in the 2009 Eurobasket World Championships earlier this month. “When I was younger, it was my dream to play in the WNBA,’’ she said. “It is the highest level to play basketball.’’ To make room on the roster, the Sun waived veteran Barbara Turner . . .
