Felix Hernandez kept the Yankees off-kilter for eight innings and Russell Branyan hit a pair of homers off A.J. Burnett and drove in four runs to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 6-0 victory last night in New York.

Hernandez (9-10) allowed four hits and struck out 11. He was lifted after 117 pitches for Garrett Olson, who pitched a perfect ninth to help the Mariners win their third in a row.

Burnett (9-11) yielded 12 hits and six runs while throwing a season-high 122 pitches in seven innings.

The Mariners needed just 11 pitches to take a comfortable 3-0 lead. Ichiro Suzuki singled, Chone Figgins walked, and Branyan hit a 2-and-1 pitch into the Yankees’ bullpen before Burnett (9-11) got an out.

Athletics 5, Rays 4 — Gabe Gross scored the go-ahead run on second baseman Ben Zobrist’s fielding error with two outs in the eighth inning as host Oakland beat Tampa Bay.

Rajai Davis hit a tying sacrifice fly in the eighth, then Cliff Pennington hit a grounder to second and wound up part of the winning play for the third straight game. He hit a game-ending single to beat Toronto Wednesday and a go-ahead, two-run double in Thursday’s victory over the Rays.

Tigers 6, Indians 0 — Armando Galarraga pitched seven shutout innings to help host Detroit snap a three-game losing streak by routing Cleveland.

Galarraga, facing the Indians for the first time since his near-perfect game June 2, allowed three hits and matched a career high with eight strikeouts. He retired the first 14 Cleveland hitters before Jayson Nix’s double just over the glove of left fielder Don Kelly.

Until that point, Galarraga had retired 41 of the 42 Indians hitters he had faced this season. The only one to reach base had been Jason Donald, who was mistakenly called safe by first-base umpire Jim Joyce on what would have been the 27th out of Galarraga’s perfect game.

Reds 3, Dodgers 1 — Homer Bailey pitched seven solid innings, Brandon Phillips backed him with three hits and three RBIs, and visiting Cincinnati won its season-high seventh straight by holding off Los Angeles.

Rangers 2, Orioles 0 — C.J. Wilson took a two-hitter into the ninth inning and had a career-high 12 strikeouts to carry Texas past host Baltimore.

Braves 5, Cubs 3 — Rick Ankiel hit a bases-loaded triple off a wild Carlos Marmol with two outs in the ninth inning, sending visiting Atlanta past Chicago.

Giants 6, Cardinals 3 — Rookie Madison Bumgarner pitched into the eighth inning and visiting San Francisco got home runs from Pablo Sandoval and Aubrey Huff, sending St. Louis to its season-worst fifth straight loss.

Mets 7, Pirates 2 — David Wright and Jose Reyes each had three of New York’s slump-ending 15 hits, Mike Pelfrey pitched eight innings and the Mets ensured host Pittsburgh of its record-extending 18th consecutive losing season.

Twins 7, Angels 2 — Brian Duensing struck out six in eight innings and Jason Kubel hit a three-run homer as host Minnesota rolled over Los Angeles.

Marlins 9, Astros 0 — Anibal Sanchez pitched seven scoreless innings and Cody Ross and Hector Luna hit back-to-back homers to power host Florida over Houston.

Brewers 10, Padres 6 — Casey McGehee homered and drove in four runs and host Milwaukee piled up 15 hits against baseball’s top pitching staff to snap San Diego’s five-game winning streak.

Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 3 — Kelly Johnson doubled in Justin Upton from first base with one out in the 10th inning as Arizona rallied past Colorado in Phoenix.

Phillies 1, Nationals 0 — Roy Halladay (16-8) pitched seven shutout innings to lead Philadelphia over visiting Washington.

The Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals game was postponed by rain and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader tonight beginning at 7:10.
