■White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham left in the third inning after he was hit in the face by Alex Rios’s throw from the outfield. The ball bounced over Beckham’s glove and appeared to hit him above the left eye. Beckham’s eye was swollen but he did not suffer any vision damage. He was taken for X-rays.
■The Rays’ Sam Fuld entered in an 11-for-94 slide that dropped him to ninth in the lineup after hitting leadoff 38 times this season. He followed up his second-inning homer with a bunt single.
■The Pirates’ Kevin Correia (7-4) moved into a tie with Boston’s Jon Lester for the major league lead in wins.
■Rays All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria was hitless in four at-bats, and is 4 for 33 in his last nine games.
■Giants manager Bruce Bochy was ejected in the fifth inning against the Brewers when he came out of the dugout to argue after home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski called Milwaukee’s Nyjer Morgan safe on a close play at the plate.
