After pitching his way into the Northeastern University Hall of Fame, he was drafted by the Red Sox in 1999, and was chosen as the best pitcher in the system when he went 9-3 with a 2.96 ERA with Single A Sarasota before being promoted to Double A. He was asked to pose for a baseball card issued by Topps for top prospects.
