Kalish recalled

Ryan Kalish was recalled from Triple A Pawtucket, the third stint in Boston for the 24-year-old outfielder. To make room for Daisuke Matsuzaka, the Sox optioned righthander Pedro Beato to Pawtucket. Beato, 25, who was acquired from the Mets Aug. 16 in exchange for Kelly Shoppach, was called up from Pawtucket Sunday and earned the win in relief in an 8-6 triumph over the Royals . . . Clay Buchholz will start Tuesday’s opener against the Angels and Lester will start the finale Thursday, but Valentine has not decided on a starter for Wednesday’s game. “TBA,’’ the manager said. “I don’t think it’s going to be [Franklin] Morales.’’ . . . Dustin Pedroia singled in the third inning to reach safely in 20 of 21 games since Aug. 5, a stretch in which he has hit .364 with 11 doubles, a triple, 3 homers, 14 RBIs, and 18 runs . . . Scott Podsednik went 2 for 4 and has hit safely in a season-high seven straight games. He has had multiple hits in 11 of his last 22 games with a plate appearance . . . Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 4 and recorded his second homer of the season, a solo shot in the first. His sixth-inning double marked the 200th extra-base hit of his career . . . James Loney, acquired from the Dodgers Saturday, collected his second RBI single in as many games with the Sox. Loney packed for a flight back to LA after flying overnight from the West Coast and arriving Boston in the wee hours Sunday. “It’s been crazy,’’ he said. “At least I’ll be ready for the time change.’’
