April 13: Ellsbury season derailed with shoulder injury: Outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was injured while trying to break up a double play against the Rays. Tampa Bay shortstop Reid Brignac was upended on the play and landed on Ellsbury’s shoulder. Ellsbury, fresh off a near-MVP season, missed the next three months and struggled at the plate after his return.
