Sox thinking long term on Pedroia
According to a report on ESPNBoston.com, the Red Sox are ready to begin discussions on a possible long-term contract extension with second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The 29-year-old Pedroia still has two years remaining on his current six-year, $40.5 million contract. He's scheduled to earn $10 million in both 2013 and 2014, and the Red Sox have a club option for $11 million (with a $500,000 buyout) for 2015. Pedroia was the AL MVP in 2008, but injuries have slowed the popular second baseman's production in recent seasons.
