Red Sox must handle Clay Buchholz with care

Clay Buchholz has had stiffness in his neck/collarbone area for the past couple of starts, but the Red Sox have ruled out ligament damage, and it appears that Buchholz simply has to get over the occasional soreness.

The Red Sox pushed him back twice from his previous start and may do the same again. He may not make his scheduled Friday start at Baltimore.

Buchholz should not go back out until he’s 100 percent. He is 9-0, a very big part of why the Red Sox are in first place. Pitchers are different than positional players in that an injury can change their mechanics and delivery, and adding to the injury is the last thing the Red Sox want to do with their ace.
