Spend a day in the Dominican Republic with the wildly impulsive Pedro Martinez and a portrait emerges of a Pied Piper, committed to helping his fellow Dominicans, one kid at a time. The Pedro Martinez and Brothers Foundation, headquartered on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, helps impoverished youths in his hometown of Manoguayabo. Martinez is as passionate about it as he is about baseball.
His wife Carolina, who was the recipient of a foundation grant in her youth, helps Pedro run the foundation. They are on a mission to give hope and opportunity to children.
“That’s the main reason, to give the kids a legitimate opportunity to become better citizens,” said Pedro. “To see them go home happy and clean.”
