John Lackey threw 16 ground ball outs in his 6-2/3 innings and came up big in a big win over the Yankees to help stop Boston’s losing streak at three games. The Yankees could never mount any momentum. And they tried to exploit Lackey’s slow delivery to the plate by attempting steals early in the game, successful on two out of three. But their aggressiveness also cost them with Alfonso Soriano was doubled off second base on a pop up to short by Curtis Granderson in the second inning, another play that changed momentum in Lackey’s favor. Lackey was cheered just as loudly as Alex Rodriguez was booed as he walked off the mound in the seventh inning with a 5-1 lead. He deserved every bit of it. Lackey, we mean.
