Red Sox manager John Farrell officially announced lefthander Jon Lester as his Opening Day starter Thursday. Lester will take the ball Monday in Baltimore vs. Orioles righty Chris Tillman.

Lester was 15-8 last season with a 3.75 ERA, striking out 7.5 batters per nine innings. He went 2-0 and gave up just one run in two World Series games.

Farrell said the team would make roster cuts Thursday to get closer to the Opening Day number of 25, but that the center field battle between Grady Sizemore and Jackie Bradley Jr. would not be decided until Friday.
