Parade coverage on TV

This morning's Red Sox parade will be broadcast on most local television and cable stations in the Boston area. In some cases, the coverage will begin as early as 6:30 a.m., with most stations beginning coverage before the 10 a.m. start.

The stations will be using a cooperative approach to covering the rally. Channels 4, 5, 7, 9, 25, 38, 56, NECN, and NESN each will have one camera position along the route and make that feed available to all the participating stations.

In addition, each station has three points for its own cameras.

"We used this system in covering the two Patriots Super Bowl parades," said Neil Ungerleider, assistant news director at WCVB-TV (Channel 5). "No local station has the resources to cover this big an event on its own."

The stations are putting news and sports anchors on the route, as well as reporters aboard the Duck Tour boats and in the crowd. Channels 4 and 5 are using their helicopters, and Channel 7 is using the Hood blimp.

"This is going to be an even bigger production than the Patriots' parades," said Ungerleider.
