Mirabelli on disabled list
Red Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli is going on the 15-day disabled list with a wrist injury, according to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo. On the Red Sox radio network pregame show, Sox GM Theo Epstein said Mirabelli sprained his left wrist during his last at-bat in the 13-6 loss to Oakland on Wednesday.
Mirabelli has played in 13 games for the Red Sox this season and was batting .194 with two home runs. He typically catches knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield but hit a grand slam in Detroit on May 3 when he was inserted into the lineup as a designated hitter.
According to the Pawtucket Red Sox website, Shawn Wooten's contract was purchased by the Boston Red Sox. Wooten, who is catcher and can also play first and third base, becomes the sixth different PawSox player to be promoted to the Red Sox this season following: LHP Lenny DiNardo (April 26), RHP Tim Bausher (April 29), INF Kevin Youkilis (April 30), RHP Jeremi Gonzalez (May 2), and RHP Cla Meredith (May 8).
