Bigbie-to-Boston appears to be off
Hold the phones on the Larry Bigbie coming to an outfield near you.
Major league sources told the Globes Gordon Edes on Saturday afternoon that the potential deal -- reported in todays Providence Journal -- sending Bigbie (whom the Orioles shipped to Colorado on Friday) to Boston for Triple-A catcher Kelly Shoppach and outfielder Adam Stern appears to be off.
This development is curious because Shoppachs name has been mentioned in the Manny Ramirez talks. Does this mean those negotiations are still ongoing? Not necessarily, but stay tuned.
The 27-year-old Bigbie was hitting .249 with five homers and 21 RBIs in 66 games for the Orioles this season, and he would have given the Red Sox a lefthanded right fielder to platoon with righty Gabe Kapler until Trot Nixon comes off the disabled list.![]()
