Red Sox sign Ricky Bottalico

The Red Sox have signed right-handed pitcher Ricky Bottalico and assigned him to Pawtucket, the pitcher's agent confirmed today.

The Brewers designated Bottalico for assignment July 27. In his 40 games for Milwaukee, he was 2-2 with a 4.54 ERA but had problems in his last eight appearances with a 10.13 ERA.

In his 11-year career, Bottalico has an ERA of 3.99 with a record of 33-42. He started his career with the Phillies in 1994 and also pitched for St. Louis, Kansas City, Arizona and the Mets before being signed by the Brewers this season.
