Palmeiro goes to Baltimore for MRI

Embattled first baseman not at Fenway

Rafael Palmeiro flew with the Orioles to Boston last night from Toronto, but flew to Baltimore today to have an MRI on right knee, which has been bothering him at various points this season. He will not be at Fenway Park for tonight's game.

Sox second baseman Tony Graffanino is out of the lineup for third consecutive day with a sore right hamstring. "I ran on it and still felt it," Graffanino said. "I feel like tomorrow should be the day." Alex Cora will start at second base again tonight. Cora is hitting .345 in last nine games (10 for 29).

Closer Mike Timlin, who has pitched in four straight games, is not available to pitch tonight, according to manager Terry Francona. If there is a save situation in tonight's game, the Sox have will have a decision to make as Keith Foulke would also not be an option, although he is expected to pitch.

The Sox recalled lefthander Lenny DiNardo from Pawtucket who will make his first major-league start in tonight's game.

The lineup:

4. Manny Ramirez, LF

5. Trot Nixon, RF
