When manager Terry Francona was asked if reliever Keith Foulke would be pitching when the Sox have the lead anytime soon, he replied, "There may come a situation in one of these games where we need Timlin in early, if we have a chance to lose in the seventh inning, and we don't want to, maybe the game dictates that (Foulke would follow Timlin)."
Regarding Foulke's progress, Francona said "He wasn't as sharp last night. I didn't think the ball came out (of his hand) as crisp as the outing before, but the innings (he's pitching) are huge for him, that's the only way to get him back."
Rehabbing Sox pitcher Wade Miller threw about 60 pitches in a bullpen session today. Miller said he definitely intends to pitch for Double-A Portland in either Game 5 of their playoff series on Sunday or in Game 1 of next round if they advance.
Manny Ramirez is back in lineup tonight after going 4-for-26 in his last seven games. "I think he lost his base a little bit," manager Terry Francona said. "When he comes out of it, he won't (just) hit a couple of singles. The hope is he hits a bunch of home runs and knocks in a bunch of runs and puts us on his back."
