Nov. 25, 2002 -- Hired as Red Sox general manager at 28 years, 11 months old. "Growing up in New England, you never lose the Red Sox from your blood," he said. "Being here, being general manager of this club, it just feels right."
Oct. 16, 2003 -- Lacking a traditional closer, the Red Sox lose Game 7 of the AL championship series to the New York Yankees after blowing a three-run lead with five outs to go.
Nov. 27, 2003 -- Ate Thanksgiving dinner with Curt Schilling in an attempt to lure him to Boston. The next day, Schilling agreed to accept a trade to Boston and signed a contract extension with the Red Sox.
July 31, 2004 -- Traded Nomar Garciaparra in a four-team deal that netted shortstop Orlando Cabrera and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz.
Oct. 27, 2004 -- Red Sox win World Series for first time since 1918, sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in four games.
