Boston OF Trot Nixon leaves game with side injury

BOSTON --Red Sox right fielder Trot Nixon left Sunday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels after clutching his side when he took a wild swing in the third inning.

Nixon left with a 2-2 count and was replaced by Wily Mo Pena. He swung at the first pitch to complete the strikeout that was charged to Nixon.

Nixon, who is batting .294 with seven homers and 47 RBIs, has seen his power numbers drop off this year. He entered the game on pace for a career-high .397 on-base percentage and a career-low .427 slugging percentage.
