Regardless of whether he would be handing the ball to Daisuke Matsuzaka today or bidding him adieu until next season, Red Sox manager Terry Francona was persuaded that Matsuzaka was not permanently scarred by his Game 3 start against the Indians, in which the righthander lasted just 4 2/3 innings.
