HAZEL MAE Next stop unknown |
Mae, NESN will part ways
A familiar face is signing off from the New England Sports Network.
Hazel Mae, who anchors the nightly news and highlight show "SportsDesk," will leave NESN at the end of the month, the network announced yesterday.
"I've decided now was the right time to make this difficult decision to leave," Mae said in a statement. "It has been both a personal and professional privilege to be a part of NESN . . . During my time with the network, I've had more than a few once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, including the chance to cover two World Series and a Super Bowl.
"Most importantly, I'd like to thank the amazing and passionate sports fans of New England, who have welcomed me into their homes and given me a chance to do the kind of work I enjoy."
Mae, who also hosts "The Ultimate Red Sox Show," and "The Buzz," which features the Bruins, spent nearly four years at NESN.
She joined the network in August 2004, after working as an anchor and host for Rogers Sportsnet in Toronto.
Mae did not reveal her immediate plans.
"Hazel has been a special part of the NESN family," said Joel Feld, vice president for programming and executive producer. "Every day, she brought energy, smarts, and a fan sensibility to our audience. We are sorry to see her leave but wish her well in future professional endeavors."
