BOSTON—The Boston Red Sox send Justin Masterson to the mound against James Shields of the Tampa Bay Rays, as the teams meet for the first time since trading positions atop the AL East.
The Red Sox on Monday will look to break a trend in which the home team has won all nine games between the clubs this season.
Masterson got his second career win against Tampa Bay on June 3. He allowed four runs on six hits in six innings as the Red Sox went on to sweep the Rays to reclaim first place in the AL East.
Shields was a primary figure in the June 5 brawl at Fenway Park. Tampa Bay felt Coco Crisp had attempted to injure second baseman Akinori Iwamura on a slide.
Shields hit Crisp in the hip with a fastball, provoking a benches-clearing brawl that earned eight players suspensions.
