BOSTON—The Boston Red Sox have designated Aug. 3 as Rhode Island Day at Fenway Park.

The World Series champions will honor their fans from the Ocean State by making some tickets for that day's game against the Oakland Athletics available exclusively to Rhode Island residents through an online drawing.

In addition, the person who throws out the first pitch, the National Anthem singer and the Honor Guard will all be from Rhode Island.

Gov. Donald Carcieri says he "greatly appreciates" the recognition.

Registration for the random ticket drawing starts Thursday at http://www.redsox.com.
