BOSTON—The Boston Red Sox have optioned outfielder Brandon Moss to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Red Sox said they would fill Moss' roster spot on Friday, prior to the start of a weekend series with the New York Yankees. The team was expected to activate David Ortiz after the slugger completed a six-game minor league rehab stint.

Ortiz has been on Boston's disabled list since May 30 with a wrist injury.

Moss has appeared in 34 games in three different stints with the major league club this season, posting a .295 average with 2 homers and 11 RBIs.
