Now that the Red Sox have acquired Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford, a look at some other players they may target:
Age: 29 Position: Righthanded reliever Previous team: Twins
Fast fact: Despite having seven years in the majors, Crain has made only six career appearances at Fenway Park, one in the last two seasons.
Age: 35 Position: Lefthanded reliever Previous team: Twins
Fast fact: Once dominant for the Rockies, he jumped to the Angels as a free agent before the 2009 season, then was traded to the Twins last August. Lefties (.128 BA/.222 OBP/.149 SLUG) did little against him last season.
Age: 32 Position: Righthanded reliever Previous team: Blue Jays
Fast fact: A closer in recent seasons, Gregg has played on four teams in the last five years despite decent numbers. He has surrendered fewer hits than innings pitched every year since 2007.
Age: 31 Position: Righthanded reliever Previous team: Twins
Fast fact: A workhorse who has averaged 75.5 appearances the last four years but has maintained his effectiveness outside of a rocky 2008 season.
Age: 25 Position: Lefthanded starter or reliever Previous team: Marlins
Fast fact: Miller’s agent, Darek Braunecker, also represents Cliff Lee and may be preoccupied until that situation is settled.
Age: 28 Position: Catcher Previous team: Dodgers
Fast fact: Russell Nathan Coltrane Jeanson Martin has hit only .249 over the last two seasons. But that’s better than Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jason Varitek, who have hit a combined .220 in that stretch.
