Red Sox at the halfway point
Pleasant surprisesThe emergence of Andrew Miller (left) came during an emergency. Josh Reddick has been swinging well on the recent road trip and is maturing before our eyes. And wily veteran Tim Wakefield is doing what he does best ... anything the team asks him to do: spot starter, long reliever, and capable fill-in.
Miller, a six-foot-seven lefty, is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA after two starts. Reddick has a 1.184 OPS in 33 at-bats with the big club.
The 44-year-old Wakefield is near his career norm with a 4.54 ERA in 69.1 innings this season. He's started nine games since the rotation has experienced injury problems.
