Red Sox at the halfway point

Salty's starting to catch on Catching was among the No. 1 concerns for Red Sox fans before the 2011 season. Jason Varitek was on the back nine and the nation turned its eyes to 25-year-old Jarrod Saltamacchia, once a highly regarded prospect with the Braves and Rangers who struggled early, but has since settled in, batting .253 with 5 homers, 20 RBIs. He's played in 50 of 80 games. Varitek is back in the swing for his 14th full season with the Sox. He's appeared in 37 games, catching the bulk of Josh Beckett's outings, and belted a pair of homers in the finale in Philadelphia.
