Let the rumors begin.

Just a few hours after trading Edgar Renteria to the Braves, the Red Sox learned that one of the best shortstops in the game, Migeul Tejada, wants out of Baltimore. I won’t rehash all the details of Tejada’s statement here, but did want to share this tidbit, from an Associated Press story on FoxSports.com:

“A source close to Tejada, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Tejada would like to be traded to a team on the East Coast, and mentioned the Boston Red Sox as a possible destination.”

Have the Red Sox finally found a suitor for Manny Ramirez? The Red Sox, according to the Globe’s Gordon Edes, were already discussing the possibilities last night.

At least on the surface, it seems to make sense, dollars-wise. Tejada is owed $48 million over the next four years, while Manny stands to make $57 million over the next three years.

Of course, the Sox and Orioles may be hesitant to deal within the division, but stranger things have happened. I don’t think we’ve heard the last of this one ...
