Nomar a Dodger

By David Lefort, Boston.com Staff

Nomar Garciaparra has reportedly made his decision. According to reports in the New York Post and on ESPN.com, the former Red Sox shortstop has agreed to an incentive-laden one-year deal with the Dodgers.

Garciaparra was thought to be deciding between offers from the Dodgers, Yankees, Indians, and Astros.

The Post reported that Garciaparra’s contract was worth between $6 million and $8 million with an incentive based on plate appearances. He is expected to play first base, a position he’s never played previously but one that is less likely to aggravate a severe groin injury he suffered last season with the Cubs.

The 32-year-old played in just 62 games for the Cubs last season because of that groin injury, hitting .283 with nine homers and 30 RBIs. He also missed half of the 2004 season due to injuries.
