Second full day of workouts, and we've yet to see our first New York writer. Last spring, it was as if the NY papers had opened Boston bureaus. Guess that's what happens when you finish out of the money.

The fog was late to burn off this morning in Fort Myers, but that didn't keep David Wells from showing up even before the clubhouse was opened to the media at 8 a.m. Wells hit the bike early, according to club officials. We'll let you know if he shows up on the field.

Dustin Pedroia made his first spring appearance, showing up bright and early even though his flight from Arizona, which connected in Chicago, didn't touch down till 1 a.m. Attire of choice for his first day ever in big-league camp: a Chad Johnson Bengals jersey. Social note: Pedroia says he's engaged. He also said he's coming to camp prepared to play either second and short; he took ground balls at both positions. He worked out in Arizona at the same facility as Randy Johnson.

Big Papi was back, wearing a Manny being Manny T-shirt, chuckling over the furor he created with his Manny going to Italy crack. The Sox are saying that Manny is still Stateside ... we'll see.

Keith Foulke is throwing his first side session today ... Terry Francona said he can't recall Foulke doing so this early in camp. Foulke said yesterday he looks at this as a fairly significant barometer of where he's at this spring.

Here are your pitching groups in camp:

Group 1--Van Buren, Martinez (Edgar, not Pedro), Bausher, Pauley, Vermilyea
Group 2--Wakefield, Clement, Arroyo, Serrano
Group 3--Schilling, Beckett, Papelbon, Alvarez, Lester
Group 4--DiNardo, Bumatay, Breslow, Holtz, Seibel
Group 5--Timlin, Tavarez, Riske, Foulke, Seanez
Group 6--Ginter, Delcarmen, Hansen, Meredith, Nunez

Groups 4 through 6 are throwing today.

This being school vacation week, the fans are showing up in droves. For those coming down, you'll be impressed by the new airport terminal. Don't miss the Panther Crossing signs as you head into town.
