Curt Schilling drew a big media crowd in the Sox locker room after throwing 22 pitches in a mound session against three Sox minor league hitters. Schilling was pleased with how he threw in terms of velocity, pitch location and his repertoire, which included a nasty splitter that fooled some of the hitters on an 80-degree day here.

"I felt great," said Schilling. "I was pleased with everything out there."

Schilling is due to make his first scheduled spring training start Friday against Boston College. Terry Francona thought he would throw about 30-35 pitches.

David Wells had "an indoor day," according to Terry Francona.

Mark Loretta and Alex Gonzalez spent a lot of time working on their coordination in the middle infield before Gonzalez departs Thursday for Team Venezuela. Francona said the two have worked hard together and should have some working knowledge of each other once Gonzalez returns later in spring training.

Francona thought he would see Manny Ramirez here tomorrow, but has not had any contact with Ramirez for a while. Francona said he knew nothing about reports that Ramirez was in town. Francona said he was assured that Ramirez has been working out in Miami. "I spoke to a minor league kid who he working out with and the kid was shocked at how hard he works and how much he does," Francona said. The Sox skipper kiddingly warned one and all to leave the door slightly ajar on Ramirez possibly not making it in.

The Red Sox announced today that they have agreed to terms on contracts with 16 players: Manny Delcarmen, Edgar Martinez, Cla Meredith, Jonathan Papelbon, David Pauley, Jermaine Van Buren, Jamie Vermilyea, Abe Alvarez, Lenny DiNardo, Jon Lester, Josh Bard, Alejandro Machado, Kevin Youkilis, Brandon Moss, David Murphy and Adam Stern. All 40 players on the Sox roster have now agreed to contracts for 2006.
