The Red Sox today optioned righthanded reliever Manny Delcarmen to Pawtucket, and will make a corresponding move to replace the Hyde Park native on the active roster prior to tomorrow night’s game in New York.
Delcarmen made four appearances since being recalled from Pawtucket on April 23, posting a 9.82 ERA in limited duty. The 24-year-old threw 10 scoreless innings for the PawSox before his promotion late last month.
The Providence Journal reported in today’s edition that it seemed likely the Sox would replace Delcarmen with another reliever, possibly lefty Mike Holtz or righty Jermaine Van Buren.
Reliever David Riske threw another bullpen session yesterday, and could be ready to come off the disabled list fairly soon. He's scheduled to pitch for the PawSox Wednesday. ''He really feels good," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.
