Pedro Martinez received an impromptu standing ovation from the Fenway fans prior to the start of the top of the second, when the Sox flashed Pedro highlights on the Jumbotron in center field along with the message "The Boston Red Sox extend a warm welcome back to Pedro Martinez."
Hearing the loud cheers, Pedro stepped out of the dugout and was greeted with the standing ovation. He saluted the fans, pointing to them and then doffing his cap. As soon as Pedro was done soaking in the cheers, Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado yanked Jon Lester's first offering down the line in right field for a home run, cutting the Sox lead in half, 2-1.
Boston scored twice in the bottom of the first on Jason Varitek's bases loaded two-run single to right field with two outs.
