Not looking good

It just got darker here at Fenway Park, with a menacing cloud cover that does not look good for getting in tonight's game. And it's absolutely pouring. Sand bags line the opening to the Red Sox clubhouse, which looks like it has a good bit of water on the floor. The Sox had to take batting practice in the center field batting cages, because their normal cages just inside the dugout were flooded.

There were brief updates on a couple of pitchers whose returns from the disabled list the Red Sox are anxiously awaiting. Matt Clement was supposed to be up to throwing at about 90 feet today. David Wells was "doing a little bit better" according to manager Terry Francona. "Hopefully if he feels good enough, he might join us on this trip," Francona said, adding that might throw this week.

Wily Mo Pena might be headed to a rehab appearance at Triple A Pawtucket. He was supposed to have a chance at taking batting practice with the team, but with the rain he was back to the batting cages.

Jason Johnson, the Red Sox' new pitcher from the Indians, planned to throw a side session today in anticipation of his start on July 1. He offered to head to the bullpen if the team needed him there, but Francona said he would rather just have Johnson throw sides until his start date. Putting him in the bullpen doesn't seem to be optimal, especially with the offday on Monday.
