« Wells on Monday | Main | Rain coming? »
Greetings from Fenway
Greetings from a sweltering Fenway Park.
-- Besides the return of David Wells on Monday, there was other good news on the injury front: Keith Foulke (elbow) is expected to pitch one inning in his rehab assignment at short-season Single A Lowell tonight. If all goes well he will pitch in Pawtucket on Sunday. Injured starter Matt Clement (shoulder laxity/biceps strain) threw from 100 feet yesterday and Francona said Clement could be a couple of days away from throwing a side session. Lenny DiNardo (neck strain) threw from 100 feet as well and Francona said it was the best he's looked so far. However, Tim Wakefield (fractured rib) still has a ways to go and won't commence throwing until the end of the current homestand at the earliest.
-- The return of reliever Javier Lopez, who took the place of Kason Gabbard on the Sox roster, resulted in a game of musical chairs in the Sox clubhouse. Lopez reclaimed his stall between Jonathan Papelbon and Josh Beckett. Jermaine Van Buren, who had been between Papelbon and Beckett, moved to a stall next to Manny Delcarmen. The former occupant of that stall, Craig Hansen, shifted to a portable stall behind the support beam on which the television is mounted in the clubhouse, and Jon Lester, tonight's starter, moved from behind the beam to a stall on the end of row that houses Delcarmen and Johnny Pesky. That stall had been used by the Sox coaching staff. You got all that?
